Christantus Uche Fuels Straightforward Palace Win at Irish Side Shelbourne.

Despite embarking on their maiden continental adventure, Crystal Palace are learning very quickly. Without key figures like forward Jean-Philippe Mateta and wing-back Daniel Muñoz, the Eagles left Dublin with a comfortable result that all but secures them a spot in the Europa Conference League qualifying rounds.

Another three points in their next match against Finnish KuPS should be sufficient to secure straight entry to the knockout stages, especially after a previous stumble against Strasbourg.

Fringe Players Seize the Moment

This occasion provided a chance for some of Palace's fringe players to shine. Christantus Uche, in only his second start since arriving on loan from Getafe, notched the scoring with a clinical finish. Striker Eddie Nketiah added a another, scoring for the second game in succession.

A Shelbourne team that had concluded their domestic season were outmatched even for a mostly rotated Palace lineup. The Londoners were already depleted by the news that Mateta and Muñoz are out with leg problems.

Control Established from the Start

Despite heavy rain in Dublin, Palace quickly established dominance. A slick passing sequence in the 11th minute, initiated by Daichi Kamada's incisive pass, let Nketiah to set up Uche for a simple finish.

Midfielder Adam Wharton came close soon after, driving a powerful shot over the bar. Nketiah then claimed for a penalty after racing into the area, but the official waved away the protests.

The formerArsenal man didn't need to wait long to get his goal, prodding home from close range after Uche's shot had struck the post.

Shelbourne were hanging on for dear life. Full-back Kameron Ledwidge was fortunate to escape a booking for a couple of robust tackles on Yeremy Pino, before Chris Richards struck the crossbar with a header from a corner.

Pino Wraps Up the Contest

The match was as good as over eight minutes from half-time. Yeremy Pino weaved past some comically weak challenges before coolly slotting a shot past goalkeeper Wessel Speel to make it 3-0.

After the break, manager Oliver Glasner seized the opportunity to withdraw key individuals like Kamada and Wharton. Substitute Romain Esse almost scoring with his first touch, but saw his effort blocked.

Esse was desperately unlucky later on, seeing one shot crash off both posts before being clasped on the line. Uche also blazed a sitter of a chance, showing there is still scope for development in his game.

The only worry for Palace was a late injury to Justin Devenny, who was forced off. This allowed 17-year-old forward Benji Casey to make his senior debut, capping an otherwise perfect night for the visiting side.
