Toy Story 5 Teaser Sets Woody and Buzz Versus a Tablet Computer
It has been 30 years since the original Toy Story movie debuted, launching Pixar as a major animation studio and bringing viewers to beloved characters like Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.
In 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed recently, offering a brief look into the storyline but leaving fans curious how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Spooks the Gang
In the teaser shows Bonnie — who received Andy's toys when he left for college — getting a latest toy, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. She acquires her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.
Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the characters seem to view it as a danger coming to replace them, which it likely will.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
One thing the trailer avoids is why Woody is back with his friends in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), journeying with a fair and assisting giveaway items find good homes.
Surely, Pixar will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him appear in the familiar setting unexpectedly is a little strange, though. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have returned with him. And where is the stuntman toy (the star)?
Connections from the Previous Film
Fortunately, some aspects are continuing from the prior film. The final act the cowboy did before setting off for his new life was pass his sheriff badge to Jessie (the voice actor), entrusting her as the leader of the toy domain. In the teaser shows the insignia attached to her shirt.
Hopefully she is still the key figure among the group.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
